There are certain questions Phyllis and I get asked over and over again.

People often ask why we chose property management. They wonder why we work so closely with military families or stay involved with community groups. Recently, people asked why we dedicate months of planning, volunteer hours, and resources to organize a Day of Service. They find it surprising since we have not even met the family yet.

These are completely fair questions. Running a business demands significant time and focus. Every day, our team works hard to protect investments, support residents, and lead a growing company. Like any small business owner, we often find fewer hours in the day than responsibilities on our desks.

The truth is, our answer connects directly to property management. However, it unfolds in a way people might not expect.

Our Philosophy: Beyond Property Management

To us, property management means more than collecting rent or coordinating maintenance. It centers entirely on people. We focus on protecting client investments, finding comfortable homes for families, and strengthening local neighborhoods. We aim to leave our communities better than we found them. This core philosophy guided us long before we opened our current business lines.

A shared belief connected Phyllis and me almost immediately when we met. Long before business ownership or the birth of our daughter, Laila’h, we prioritized helping others. We never viewed service as a secondary task reserved for convenient moments. True community service is not a simple calendar event. It is a fundamental part of who we are.

This deep commitment quickly became the foundation of our relationship. Over the years, it shaped our marriage and guided our decisions as a family. Ultimately, it became the primary principle behind the company we built together.

A Shared Foundation of Faith and Family

Our deep commitment to serving others stems from our Christian faith. We have received incredible blessings throughout our lives. Because of these gifts, we feel a responsibility to serve our neighbors with humility, compassion, and gratitude. This personal motivation does not mean volunteers must share our specific faith to stand beside us.

Community outreach naturally brings diverse people together for many different reasons. Some neighbors find motivation in faith, others in patriotism, and many simply want to do the right thing. Whatever brings someone to the volunteer table, we feel incredibly grateful for their presence.

Our daughter, Laila’h, also permanently changed how we view community support. As parents of a child with significant special needs, we know the power of a compassionate community. Time and again, friends, healthcare professionals, and neighbors showed up for us right when we needed it most. They shared their time, encouragement, and strength. These experiences proved that no one is meant to walk through life alone.

This personal journey explains why the upcoming Day of Service carries such a deep meaning for our family. We know exactly how a caring community transforms a household. Whenever we have the chance, we want to create that exact experience for someone else.

Lessons from Military Service

Nearly three decades of military and Department of Defense service shaped my personal perspective on community giving. I spent years serving in uniform and later worked as a Department of the Army civilian. These roles taught me leadership lessons that influence our current business operations daily. I learned that true leadership means serving others first, that big goals require teamwork, and that military families make unseen sacrifices.

Because of this background, military households hold a very special place in our hearts. Military service impacts the entire family unit, including spouses, children, and parents who carry heavy daily burdens. Supporting these resilient families feels like an absolute honor rather than a business obligation.

This dedication brings us directly to September 18, 2026.

This year, Real Property Management Regions is honored to lead our local Day of Service as part of Neighborly’s National Day of Service. To ensure our efforts are directed where they are needed most, we are coordinating with The 516 Project Ministry. Because of their deep roots in regional outreach, they are helping us connect with a local veteran family from their waiting list who can truly benefit from a coordinated community effort. Our goal is to bring together an independent coalition of local businesses, industry partners, friends, and neighbors to step up for this family.

We choose the word *serve* deliberately throughout this article. This word reflects our mindset for the entire project. We are not gathering to deliver simple charity. Instead, we are assembling to honor a family’s incredible sacrifices by gifting our collective time, skills, and genuine gratitude.

What September 18 Really Means

Over the next few months, we will share regular updates about this initiative. While it might look like a standard volunteer project from the outside, we are building toward a much larger goal. Meaningful service requires deep trust among people who want to make a unified difference.

Because meaningful service requires collaborative trust, we reached out to The 516 Project Ministry to help us identify the right recipient. They have a long waitlist of families who have already given so much to our country, which allowed us to immediately focus our resources on a vetted, local veteran family. From there, the execution, volunteers, and project leadership belong to our community coalition.

Our team deeply values protecting the family’s privacy and dignity throughout this process. We refuse to put a family’s personal hardships on public display. Their story belongs exclusively to them, and we will only share specific details with their explicit permission. Our job remains simple: show up, work hard, and remind them that their community appreciates their sacrifice. We will handle all logistics, safety rules, and material orders well in advance.

More Than a Home Improvement Project

This service project shares a lot in common with our daily approach to property management. The visible results tell only a small part of the story. Residents notice a clean, move-in-ready home. Property owners see a well-preserved investment. They don’t always see the complex work happening behind the scenes. It requires conversations, inspections, planning sessions, and vendor coordination to make those outcomes possible.

Community outreach functions the exact same way. The structural changes on September 18 will certainly matter. Fresh paint, repaired walkways, safety upgrades, and clean landscaping make a real difference for a household. However, these improvements only happen because dozens of people invest their time, assets, and hearts long before the physical work begins.

For this reason, the Day of Service belongs entirely to our broader community. It belongs to the businesses donating supplies and the contractors sharing professional expertise. It belongs to the volunteers spending a Friday working alongside new neighbors. It belongs to every civic group, church, and family who believes that serving others is a premium investment.

Most importantly, this special day belongs to the veteran family we have the distinct privilege to support.

There Is a Place for Everyone

A common misconception holds that you need specific trade skills to participate in community service. We certainly need help from licensed contractors, carpenters, painters, and landscapers. Their trade expertise is incredibly valuable. However, construction professionals represent only one part of our total team.

We need team members to welcome volunteers as they arrive, while others help keep water and refreshments available throughout the day. We also need hands to organize supplies, make a last-minute run to the hardware store, take photographs, help with cleanup, or simply spend time talking with the family while projects are underway. These individual tasks matter immensely. Often, the greatest act of service means simply showing up with a helpful attitude.

Local business owners can participate by donating materials, loaning specialty equipment, or providing corporate sponsorships for volunteer meals. If you belong to a local civic club or neighborhood association, your biggest impact might involve rallying others to sign up. No matter how you choose to get involved, you are helping build a lasting regional connection.
