I normally drop these blogs on Friday nights… but last night? I knocked out early like a grown man who just gave up government benefits.
Blame Laila’h. She’s been so chill this week, I finally slept like someone who doesn’t have to wake up for a 5 a.m. Zoom call. So here we are, Saturday morning, coffee in hand, and a little moment from the week that reminded me I’m exactly where I need to be.
This week felt different.
Every morning starts the same, getting Laila’h ready for school. And if you know our girl, you know mornings usually come with a little fight. She’s not a fan of early wake-ups, and yes… most days are a battle.
But not this week.
This week, she woke up smiling. No resistance. No stress. Just peace.
And that hit me.
Because this wasn’t just any week, it was my first full week since closing the chapter on my 27-year career with the Department of Defense. That career shaped me. It gave us stability. But it was time to step into something bigger, something more aligned with who I am now.
Time to be present, not just physically, but emotionally and mentally.
Time to put my family first.
Time to build a family-first business in real estate.
Time to step fully into life after government service and create something lasting—not just for income, but for impact.
Phyllis and I didn’t just build a company—we’re building a future. For our daughter. For our clients. For the community we love.
And somehow… Laila’h felt that shift.
She didn’t need to say anything. Her smile said it all.
It was like she was telling me, “I see you, Dad. And I’m good with this.”
The Real Confirmation
We always think the big confirmations will come loud and obvious. But this week reminded me, they don’t have to be.
Sometimes peace is your answer.
Sometimes that peace shows up when your real estate career after military service starts to align with your life at home.
Sometimes it’s in the quiet mornings, the smooth routines, the absence of resistance.
That’s when you know you’re doing something right.
If You’re in a Transition…
Whether you’re leaving a job, launching something new, or just trying to get your footing, remember this:
The right move won’t always come with applause.
Sometimes, it comes with a subtle shift in your spirit… or a morning smile from someone you love.
For me, stepping away from a federal role and into entrepreneurship in Virginia wasn’t easy, but it was right.
If you’re a veteran entrepreneur, a special needs parent, or just someone trying to find better balance, this is your reminder that you’re not alone.
Pay attention to those small moments. That’s where the truth is.
